How does IndieBound work?
IndieBound allows indie booksellers to communicate this vital role they play in their local economies and communities. It allows authors to show their dedication to indies nationwide, easily done through linking to thousands of indie bookstores through IndieBound.org.
How do independent bookstores get their books?
Wholesalers, such as Ingram Book Company and Baker & Taylor, can sell books from publishers and distributors. For the most part, bookstores order newly published titles directly from the titles’ publishers/distributors. These new books are also called “frontlist” in the industry.
How do you get on the Indie Next List?
There are three ways for ABA member booksellers to nominate titles to the Indie Next List:
- Complete the form on this page.
- On Edelweiss, go to the book page, click on “Review,” write a review, and under the “Nominate” section, select “Indie Next.” Unfortunately, clicking “Much Love” does not count as a nomination.
Is IndieBound owned by Amazon?
Indiebound – one Amazon alternative for books Bookshop, a project from the American Booksellers Association, is a network of independent bookstores. You can order any book you can find on Amazon, through Bookshop instead.
What is the Indie Next List?
The Indie Next Lists are monthly and seasonal lists of independent booksellers’ favorite new handsells. Anyone who works at a bookstore belonging to the American Booksellers Association is eligible to recommend their favorites! Nominations are accepted through Edelweiss, NetGalley, the ABA’s online form, or email.
