People hate indie music because: They hate the type of person that listens to it most probably because they’ve had a bad experience with some elitist jerk off that thinks their taste in music makes them a better person than the next person.

I generally like Indie music because it is a whole story within a song with a great beat and a completely different title for the song. You can either just use it as a background sound as you work or you can actually listen to hear what they are trying to tell you, a story.
